Created by the Sigma Chi Fraternity in 1988, Risk Management Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) education foundation established to provide members with risk management resources focused on education, prevention, and preservation.

Introduction

In the 1980’s, Sigma Chi chapters and house corporations were finding it difficult, if not impossible, to obtain liability and property insurance to protect themselves. As a whole, fraternities and sororities had become the sixth most difficult group to insure in the country. Many fraternities attempted to purchase package policies for their chapters. Sigma Chi chose a different way.

Under the leadership of the Grand Trustees, Risk Management Foundation (RMF) was formed in 1988 during the administration of Grand Consul Thomas F. Bell. Its mission: to educate chapters on risk management and to provide insurance services to RMF members. Today, 96% of Sigma Chi chapters are members of RMF, which provides risk management education to more than 15,000 brothers and insurance protection to more than $250 million in locally-owned house corporation property. RMF remains the only program of its kind in the Greek world.
